Abdurrahman, an 11-year-old student residing in Hosana, Ethiopia, suffered a leg fracture while playing a game of tetherball. Initially trying to hide his injury, Abdurrahman continued his daily activities. However, worsening levels of swelling and immobility in the following week prompted his mother to take him to a nearby hospital.
Due to his age and the nature of his injury, Abdurrahman was denied the opportunity to receive surgery. He was transferred to another clinic in Worabe, where medical personnel operated on him eight times in seven months with little-to-no improvement. Desperate for aid, Abdurrahman’s family sent him to a private clinic in Addis Ababa to take X-rays before returning him to Worabe to await results. Five additional weeks into his stay, Abdurrahman’s X-rays came back and he was referred to AaBET Hospital.
Abdurrahman underwent orthopedic surgery three weeks into his stay at AaBET. Two weeks post-op, he experienced drastic improvement in mobility and a vast reduction in pain.
