The International Orthopedic Trauma Collaboration developed the Nurse Fellowship program to address a growing need for specialized education and training for nurses serving in underserved nations where orthopedic care is rapidly expanding.

Nurses in our Fellowship work in collaboration with the University of Kansas School of Nursing and expert staff nurses in the health system, over the eight week duration of the fellowship they will get first hand experience caring for patients across the scope of orthopedic care. Getting hands on and observational experience with tools, equipment, and implants that are commonly used in orthopedics. They will observe and learn about state of the art procedures that are up and coming in low to middle class countries, where they will be able to use that knowledge in conjunction with physicians who are being trained in this procedures. This program will prepare them to help educate clinical fellow nurses serving in the orthopedic department in their home facility.

We aim to expand our nursing fellowship to train nurses who impact patients throughout the entire course of treatment and recovery from musculoskeletal injuries. These areas of expertise include emergency care, peri-operative care, outpatient and inpatient services, intensive and critical care, and rehab.
