In partnership with St. Paul's Millennium College, our mission is to construct a state-of-the-art hospital dedicated to orthopedic trauma care needs of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where the current capacity is severely limited.
Currently, Addis Ababa’s capacity for trauma care is critically constrained due to the limitations of the AaBET Burn and Trauma Hospital, the only public orthopedic trauma center in Ethiopia. Operating out of a repurposed hotel, AaBET faces a backlog of nearly 5,000 patients awaiting surgery. The waiting periods increase the risk of mortality and heighten the likelihood of complications. The repurposed facility makes it challenging to maintain sterile environments which increases the risk of operative complications and infections.
Designed with up to 11 operating rooms, our hospital will more than double the public capacity for surgical procedures, reducing wait times and improving outcomes for trauma patients. Our hospital is being designed from the ground up with The University of Kansas School of Architecture to meet the needs of orthopedic trauma care. It will have state-of-the-art operating rooms and medical equipment.
St. Paul’s Millennium College and AaBET will bring their expertise to our new hospital. By the time our doors open, their team of medical professionals will have undergone our physician and nursing fellowship programs.
We are committed to ensuring that surgeries are accessible to everyone in Ethiopia. Some costs will be covered through a combination of donations and government insurance. In collaboration with St. Paul’s Millennium College, we want life-saving procedures available to all who need them.
