The International Orthopedic Trauma Collaborative donates state-of-the-art medical equipment to the home institutions of our fellows after they complete their year-long fellowship, enabling them to continue utilizing the advanced technologies they trained with in the United States.
After our fellows return to their home institutions, the International Orthopedic Trauma Collaborative works diligently to provide them with essential equipment for trauma care. This initiative is crucial in our efforts to alleviate the trauma epidemic in their home countries. The equipment we send includes orthopedic implants, screws, and plates, as well as other vital tools such as C-Arm machines. Additionally, we supply post-operative equipment for patients, including casts and braces.
We are proud to collaborate with Project C.U.R.E. to ensure our equipment reaches those who need it most. Through generous donations from the KU Medical Center, Project C.U.R.E., and private donors, we have been able to make a significant impact. Currently, we are working with St. Paul’s Millennium Medical College to send a full shipping container of equipment to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Excluding the medical equipment, the cost of a shipping container typically amounts to around $30,000 USD.
Following the shipment to Addis Ababa, we are planning to send another container to Lusaka, Zambia. These efforts are part of our ongoing commitment to equip our fellows with the tools they need to continue providing state-of-the-art trauma care in their home countries, ultimately helping to improve healthcare outcomes in some of the world’s most underserved regions.
